What Rapid Growth Teaches You About Outstanding Service
Growth is often seen as proof that a business is doing something right. But growth doesn’t just accelerate success: it exposes weaknesses.
Processes that worked well at one scale can quickly come under pressure. Communication becomes more complex. Expectations increase. And if service hasn’t been designed properly from the start, the cracks begin to show.
At Endurance, we’re on that journey ourselves. In 2016, we were a team of 4 operating a fleet of 12 vehicles. Today, our team of 54 supports customers across the UK with a fleet of 650 with a further 200 arriving over next 12 months. It’s the kind of growth that has really reinforced just how important strong service foundations really are
For Neil Jeremiah, Managing Director at Endurance, those lessons have been clear. “Growth is one of the toughest tests a service model can face,” he says. “It puts pressure on every part of the organisation, from communication and accountability to the systems and standards behind the scenes. If those foundations aren’t strong, growth exposes them very quickly.”
In operational sectors like municipal services, where reliability and continuity are critical, service can’t be treated as something that sits quietly in the background. It has to be built deliberately. That means investing early in the things that protect customers as organisations expand: capable people, clear processes and systems that support teams under pressure. “Customer service can’t be bolted on once scale arrives,” Neil explains. “If you want to grow sustainably, you have to design service properly from the beginning.”
But the companies that scale successfully tend to share one characteristic: they treat service not as a support function, but as a strategic capability. Because ultimately, strong service disciplines don’t just survive growth, they enable it.
