Training for Tomorrow, Today: Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at EVS

At Endurance, we know that apprentices are essential to the future of our business. As a commercial vehicle specialist, our success relies on innovation, expertise, and a deep understanding of our industry. At any given time, we have multiple apprentices across various departments, from our workshop to our finance team, learning the vital skills needed to drive our business forward.

So as #NationalApprenticeshipWeek draws to a close, we caught up with Joe Challingsworth and Joel Spiteri (pictured alongside their fellow apprentices) to discuss their experiences and the crucial role apprenticeships play here at Endurance

Variety and Vision

Both agreed that Endurance’s reputation for investing in, training and retaining staff was a key reason for choosing us and are currently enjoying the variety the role offers. “My favourite thing about my time here so far has to be working on such a wide range of specialised vehicles,” says Spiteri, a Second Year Technician. “No two days are the same.”

But their focus isn’t just on the present training—much like the rest of our business, they’re also planning for the future. “Once I’ve qualified,” says Challingsworth, a Third Year Technician, “I’m really looking forward to having the freedom and opportunity to learn more complex skills here at Endurance.” And Spiteri has a specific target in mind. “I would like to eventually progress to a mobile role, helping keep customers operational across the UK,” he says.

Essential Skills for the Future

The latest Business Barometer report (published by The Open University and the British Chambers of Commerce) found that almost half (47%) of Welsh businesses are struggling with skills shortages. While this is significantly lower than the UK average of 62%, it remains a challenge across all sectors

“Without the skills that Joe and Joel are developing today, we simply wouldn’t be able to maintain the superior level of service we’re known for, now and in the future,” notes Endurance Management Director, Neil Jeremiah. “Apprentices are the lifeblood of our business and, I believe, also our sector.”

We are among the 75% of Welsh organisations committed to maintaining or increasing apprenticeship opportunities in the year ahead. So, whether you’re just starting out or looking for a new direction, we’d love to discuss how our apprenticeship opportunities can help you grow.
