The Rising Bar for Specialist Commercial Fleet Partners
For councils and operators delivering essential services, expectations of fleet partners are rising. They’re being judged differently than they were even a few years ago, and the change is happening faster than many realise.
“What’s changed isn’t the direction of travel – it’s the level of expectation,” says our Managing Director, Neil Jeremiah. “And it’s changing fast. Councils want partners who think long-term, stay flexible and take responsibility. They’re looking for support that works today and still makes sense tomorrow.”
We sat down with Neil to discuss the demands he sees becoming non-negotiable over the next five years:
- Accountability for outcomes, not just assets: Supplying vehicles is no longer enough. Fleet partners need to take responsibility for uptime, reliability and service continuity, and to act decisively when issues arise. It’s a shift towards the EaaS model that Endurance is built on.
- Greater flexibility and adaptability: Operational demands shift quickly. Councils value partners who can adapt, whether through responsive maintenance, replacement vehicles or scalable support, rather than rigid, transactional arrangements.
- Long-term environmental and financial thinking: There’s growing scrutiny on how fleet decisions hold up over time. Specification, maintenance strategy, residual value and environmental impact all matter; not just on day one, but years into service.
- Closer alignment with operational teams: The strongest partnerships are those where fleet providers understand routes, schedules and pressures on the ground. That shared context enables faster decisions and more effective support.
For Neil, the next five years won’t be defined by headline-grabbing vehicle technology or ambitious environmental targets alone. They’ll be shaped by how well fleet partners respond to growing practical demands, and how consistently they support the people delivering public services every day.
This perspective forms part of a broader conversation about the future of partnership-led fleet models; one we’ll continue to explore in more depth in the months ahead.
