Mike’s preparations for the Arctic Circle Race are in full swing

Taking on 160km of cross-country skiing through the Arctic Circle is no small feat – it’s a challenge that demands months, if not years, of dedication, training, and huge mental resilience.

A Long-Time Coming

For Mike Beck, our Asset Disposal Manager, this race has been on his radar for a long time. While he’s always enjoyed keeping fit, over recent years he has been steadily building his endurance through half marathons, full marathons, and, most recently, an Ironman in October 2024. Meanwhile, as he found himself spending more time on the slopes during family holidays and through his volunteering role at Ice Cool Kids, Mike saw the opportunity to combine the two and quietly began preparing for what will be his greatest challenge yet.

The Endurance Mindset

Registrations for the Arctic Circle Race opened late this year – only in January – giving participants a narrow window to commit and train ahead of the early April event. But if there’s one thing Mike has learned from his time in the commercial vehicle industry, it’s that adaptability is key. A tighter deadline doesn’t mean sacrificing the quality of preparation.

Fundraising Plans Are Also Underway

Mike’s fundraising efforts are also gaining momentum. Plans are forming for a charity curry night, a raffle, and a dedicated fundraising page to help reach his £3,000 target.
