Hydrogen on the horizon?

FOLLOWING our recent article fresh from the Resource & Waste Management Expo (RWM Expo) – where we noted the limited presence of hybrid- or hydrogen-powered vehicle options – we were interested to see a new study published this week that highlights the potential for hydrogen-powered commercial fleets, at least in one key region of the UK.

1 in 10 commercial fleet vehicles in the South West could run on hydrogen by 2030

As a company invested in sustainable vehicle solutions, we are keenly aware of the infrastructure challenges in transitioning to greener vehicles. That’s why the predictions from the report, commissioned by Hydrogen South West – Accelerate the change, caught our attention. Particularly the report’s estimates on hydrogen demand to support the forecasted commercial sector adoption.

Five key refuelling locations

With the South West being a critical market for us, the ‘early blueprint for refuelling infrastructure’ outlined in the report is particularly relevant. The study identifies Bristol, Bridgwater, Exeter, Plymouth and South West Cornwall as the five optimal locations for hydrogen refuelling stations.

Neil Jeremiah, Endurance Management Director, notes:

“Transitioning to cleaner, greener vehicles is essential for our industry, and this report provides valuable insight into what that could look like – at least in the South West. We’re always looking for ways to better support our customers across the UK, so we’ll be closely monitoring developments as they emerge.”
