Endurance Supports Mike Beck’s Arctic Challenge For Ice Cool Kids

Next month, our Asset Disposal Manager, Mike Beck, will be taking part in the Arctic Circle Race. Today, we’d like to share more about his chosen charity, Ice Cool Kids – an inspiring organisation that everyone here at Endurance is proud to support.

While Mike has regularly volunteered for local charities over the years, he had never found one that truly resonated with him—until he was introduced to Ice Cool Kids through his local Rotary club.

A moving and memorable introduction

On his first day he was given an empty sit ski to take down the Pembrey dry ski slope and after a few runs – and somewhat before he knew it – he had his first kid strapped and ready to go.

“The little boy was called Mateo—it was his first day too, and he was such a character. There we were, cruising down the slopes, pretending to be planes or birds, and he was whooping with laughter, calling out to go faster and faster,” recalls Beck. “While the most important thing was that Mateo was having fun, I remember looking down the slope and seeing that his parents were feeling really emotional. They never thought their son would get to experience this and that’s when it really hit home: Ice Cool Kids isn’t just for the children, it’s an incredible experience for the whole family.”

That was 2 years ago and, alongside the monthly dry ski slope sessions that he volunteers at, Mike is now on the committee of the charity, too.

An incredible cause

ICK has been going for 25 years now. It was set up by brilliant Julie Harvey to enable children and young people with additional needs to experience skiing in a way that many thought wasn’t possible. The charity is entirely run by volunteers and has a hugely positive impact on everyone involved.

“On behalf of everyone at Ice Cool Kids, I’d like to wish Mike every success in the Arctic Circle Race in April. We rely solely on the generosity of the public, and grant awarding bodies to ensure our charity continues to provide skiing opportunities for young people and their families on both dry slopes and real snow,” says Martin Whatty, Chairman of Ice Cool Kids. “Thank you Mike and to Endurance Vehicle Solutions for supporting Mike in this enormous challenge.”

Mike’s £3,000 Target

Mike is aiming to raise £3000 for the cause, this will contribute to the specialist equipment required and go towards funding a ski trip abroad which the charity is currently planning. He is organising a curry night, a raffle, and accepting donations via his fundraising page to reach his goal.
